Headmaster's Welcome

St Martin's Ampleforth is the prep school for Ampleforth College. Ampleforth was founded in 1802 by Ampleforth Abbey and incorporates the prep here at Gilling Castle, Ampleforth College and St Benet’s Hall, Oxford.

We are a Benedictine, Catholic independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3 to 13.

Our main purpose is to ensure each child entrusted in our care leaves with a strong moral compass for life; a confident ability to share their ideas and learn from mistakes; an enjoyment in living in a boarding community where learning is at the heart of daily lives; an enthusiastic appetite for participation across the curriculum and an unaffected modesty of manner.

Ampleforth is distinctive among boarding schools in its combination of life skills and faith which potentially could embrace the full educational cycle from Nursery to University. This is achieved through the relevance that our rich Benedictine tradition has for now and every day, for work and for play.
