Survival Skills
Boarders and day children had a great Saturday afternoon, learning about survival in the open. Helped by Mr Harrison, Mr Slingsby and Mr Godwin, Nero Training ran a survival program with ex-army instructor “Mr Booth”. The children learnt what plants and nuts they could safely eat, and how to recognise trees by their leaves. They were then taken deep into the woods and learnt how to make shelters from both natural items and man-made synthetic sheets. Then - the best part - the pupils were taught the quickest and easiest way to construct a fire! They were gripped by what Mr Booth had to say and the afternoon in the fresh air of Gilling Woods proved a 'hit' with everyone who took part.
