U-13s snatch soccer Bronze

It was back to Aysgarth on Wednesday for St. Martin’s, Ampleforth but this time for the U13 Spirit of Soccer. The squad included Archie Campbell, stalwart in goal; Tom Powell and Johnny Mangles solid in defence; Peter Black agile and quick in midfield with Hugo de Luis, Henry McDonnell and captain, Pierre Nikitits linking well up front. A 1-0 victory, a draw and a narrow 1-0 defeat was enough to put us into the semi-final with eventual winners, Bramcote/Woodleigh. We conceded two goals in the semi-final. In the play off for 3rd and 4th place we beat our opposition 1-0 which gave us 3rd place, a just result for all our hard work. Throughout the afternoon, the team grew in confidence with some particularly good play from Henry McDonnell up front putting him on the score sheet with Pierre who punched the air with Gallic victory when he scored our opening goal. Peter Black worked really hard with skill and speed and a brace of useful headers putting us into a strong position. He and goalie, Archie Campbell, who entertained us all afternoon with some excellent saves and powerful goal kicks, thoroughly deserved to share Player of the Tournament. Well done to all the boys.
