On Sunday 8 December, 15 Year 8 pupils journeyed to Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall for a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance.
It was a useful experience for the children taking principal roles in our own June performance, to see how professional singers approach the parts. The cast included Alistair McGowan as the Pirate King, and the D’Oyly Carte veteran, Bruce Graham as Sergeant of Police. Simon Butteriss (the Major General) probably took the acting and vocal honours overall. The performance was backed by the Manchester Concert Orchestra, formed by theatrical impresario Raymond Gubbay. They were on fine form, and conducted with spirit by Richard Balcombe. We now look forward to putting on our own splendid performance on Friday 29 June at 19:00. All are most welcome!
